Crystal T. Dixon, MPH, MA is the founder of Mango Consulting. With over 10 years as an Assistant Professor and Racial Equity Consultant and Strategist her expertise spans across a wide variety of sectors committed to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) responsibility and inclusive excellence. Her academic research and scholarship addresses the intersection of environmental racism,  sustainability, and public health. While Dixon lends her expertise in environmental justice, her services expand beyond public health.

Highly respected across various sectors, Dixon lends her expertise on inclusive excellence in collaborative work spaces. Dixon offers customized services for her clients and delivers products to meet the unique needs of organizations looking to create healthy work spaces. She consults with various nationally recognized organizations on integrating inclusive practices in organizational processes, policies, and practices. Some of her clients include Wake Forest University, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, NASA, among other organizations. Her candid approach in her work has landed her awards, recognitions, and appointments to serve on several academic and institutional boards committed to environmental justice and inclusive excellence.

Tamika M. Davis
Design Consultant

Mika is passionate about improving and optimizing teaching and learning for all people. She thoughtfully integrates technology that enhances the teaching and learning process.

Mika holds a BS in English/Professional Writing from the University of Houston. She holds a Masters in Library Science from North Carolina Central University and an Masters in Science in Instructional Design from Full Sail University.

Destinee D. Astheimer
Contracts Attorney

Destinee is a Contracts Attorney with experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. Attorney Astheimer has a Juris Doctor from Elon University School of Law. Prior to attending law school, she received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business and Marketing, from La Salle University. Attorney Astheimer is a member of the DC Bar and a Contracts Attorney at a professional medical society, where she uses her contract expertise and business background to draft agreements specific to client needs and negotiate the best terms for her clients.

M. Leah Mayo
Community and Equity Consultant

M. Leah Mayo, MPH, MCHES®, is a dedicated public health professional and educator, currently serving as the Assistant Dean for Community Engagement and Health Equity at the College of Health and Human Services at UNC Wilmington. In addition to her administrative role, Leah is an adjunct public health faculty and formerly served as the Center for Healthy Communities Coordinator and Co-Director of the North Carolina Public Health Training Center.

Dr. Kyana Young
Environmental Water Quality Expert

Dr. Kyana Young is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering and Department of Biology at Wake Forest University. She is a member of the Center for Functional Studies and a faculty member of the African American Studies program. Her interests include water treatment (drinking, stormwater runoff), human rights, disaster relief, education, social action, K-12 outreach, and more at the intersection of environmental engineering and public health, with previous water treatment technology projects in Haiti,

Dr. Rowie Kirby-Straker Environmental Risk and Communication Consultant

Dr. Rowie Kirby-Straker’s teaching, research, and scholarly creative work focus on public speaking, community listening, environmental risk communication, environmental justice, and knowledge repatriation. Using her training as an Academic and Community Engaged (ACE) fellow at Wake and her experience as an environmental communication practitioner in the Caribbean, she partners with others to create opportunities for cross-cultural engagement between students and communities locally and internationally.

Dr. Erica Payton Foh
Violence Prevention and Health Equity Consultant

Dr. Payton Foh is an Associate Professor of Public Health Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her research philosophy is deeply rooted in practitioner-scholarship, reflecting her commitment to addressing societal issues through the intersection of academia and community engagement. Her experiences as a public health educator in rural eastern North Carolina, where she witnessed the challenges of implementing culturally relevant interventions to address racial and ethnic health disparities, underscore the importance of bridging theory and practice to promote health equity.

Dr. Claire B. Crawford
Dialogue Curator

Dr. Claire B. Crawford is an assistant professor of Africana Political Thought in the Department of Politics and International Affairs and the Program in African American Studies at Wake Forest University. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Southern California. Her research focuses on Black liberation movements, political identity formation, and sonic politics. Her publications include an article in Social Science Quarterly (2021). Her current book project, “Hum So the Devil Doesn’t Hear You: Southern Black Rural Political Existences in the Otherwise”, is an interdisciplinary study that attempts to deeply understand how we can consider otherwise possibilities of democratic engagement as practiced in the murmurs, breaks of speech, and hums of Black rural Southern life.

 

 

Marla Kasper
Sustainability Strategist

Marla Kasper BSN, RN, EMSL is a registered nurse (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 2004) who has always had a strong passion for environmentalism and global health. After past experiences as a pediatric travel nurse and Peace Corps Volunteer (Malawi 2009-2011), she most recently worked in the health insurance industry, where she pioneered sustainability efforts since 2019. Marla recently completed her Executive Masters of Sustainability Leadership from Arizona State University (2022), where her graduate research was titled, “Climate Change and Health Equity: What is our Role as a Health Insurance Company?” Marla is a strategic thinker, problem solver, and project manager. She is a Climate for Health Ambassador with ecoAmerica and enjoys educating others about the impacts of climate change on human health.

Jaime Cárdenas Ph.D. Candidate Water Quality Expert

Understanding the local dynamics, socio-economic factors, and cultural differences is fundamental to the success of any water treatment technology. In this pursuit, my expertise converges at the intersection of laboratory instrumentation, field site assessment, and technology development. Through rigorous laboratory testing, I engineer water treatment solutions that are both environmentally friendly and contextually relevant. 

Dr. Leslie Straker Coastal Management and Ocean Policy Expert

Dr. Straker is academically trained in marine affairs and coastal resource management.  He has conducted research in those areas in several countries in different regions of the world. He teaches environmental science courses in the areas of coastal management, environmental decision-making  and coastal resiliency in the Sustainability Masters’ Program at Wake Forest University.
