Dixon was appointed by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Wake Forest University, to design several tools for the R.I.D.E. Framework. These tools were distributed across the university for all departments and programs for faculty and staff to assist in their diversity action plans at Wake Forest University.

Dixon was invited by Melissa Harris-Perry, the Founder of the Anna Julia Cooper Center, former MSNBC host, professor, and political commentator, to join the team. Currently, Dixon assists with the production of livestreams in collaboration with The Nation, Community Change, among other national and international partners.

Dixon was part of a team who received a grant from the Association for Prevention and Teaching Research to create a case study discussing the Accountability of Cancer Care through Undoing Racism and Equity (ACCURE) study. This was implemented to address systemic racism in healthcare. This research was a community-based participatory research approach led by the Greensboro Health Disparities Collaborative.

RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP

The case study tells the story of the GHDC’s founding and how the group went on to conduct the National Cancer Institute-funded Accountability for Cancer Care through Undoing Racism and Equity (ACCURE) study which eliminated racial inequities in breast and lung cancer treatment outcomes. Results from the ACCURE study were published in the Journal of the National Medical Association. Further information about the ACCURE interventions are described in a chapter of the book Racism: Science & Tools for the Public Health Professional and on the GHDC website.

Dixon completed an independent study at Wake Forest University with Melissa Harris-Perry entitled, Hip Hop, Feminism, and Public Health. This graduate reading seminar seeks to address, analyze, explore and contest hip-hop music and culture through a close examination of public health and Black feminism. This course is an analytic space for debate and discussion about the impact of hip-hop culture on the sexual, gendered, economic, and political understandings of African Americans and examination of how those understandings are connected to a range of public health outcomes
