Jaime Cárdenas Ph.D. Candidate Water Quality Expert
Understanding the local dynamics, socio-economic factors, and cultural differences is fundamental to the success of any water treatment technology. In this pursuit, my expertise converges at the intersection of laboratory instrumentation, field site assessment, and technology development. Through rigorous laboratory testing, I engineer water treatment solutions that are both environmentally friendly and contextually relevant.
My expertise in water treatment is mainly founded on adaptability, precision, and an understanding of context. The grounds of my skill set lie in the ability to assess and address water quality challenges at their source, employing a diverse array of techniques and tools, all while tailoring solutions to the unique circumstances of the community. These measurements serve as the foundation upon which our water treatment strategies are constructed.
I recognize that the 'one-size-fits-all' approach is often inadequate, particularly when dealing with diverse water sources and community needs. This means prioritizing the provision of safe and accessible water to underserved communities that may lack the resources for traditional water treatment systems. It also includes understanding the unique characteristics of each site, such as the type of water source (e.g., stormwater runoff or groundwater), the size of the community, and the efficiency required to meet the specific standards mandated by the community.

Dr. Leslie Straker Coastal Management and Ocean Policy Expert
Dr. Straker is academically trained in marine affairs and coastal resource management. He has conducted research in those areas in several countries in different regions of the world. He also has practitioner experience in the management of coastal resources at the country and regional levels, in the Caribbean context. He brings his wealth of real-world experiences to the classroom, where he has been teaching in environmental studies programs at several universities for the past decade. He approaches environmental science from the perspective that it is a “science about the management of people and their use of resources and not the management of the resources themselves. Resources have always been fine until we begin to use them,” he likes to say.
